Former Sex Pistols' Johnny Rotten (aka John Lydon) and his post-punk band, PiL (Public Image Ltd.) performed Wednesday night at the Crofoot Ballroom. It was to the day, 30 years ago, that he last played Detroit, and 17 years since they toured the USA.
He played a near sold out show, with no opening acts. A solid, quite entertaining two (2) hour show. His voice sounded amazing, and he was comical and rude at the same time. He danced and bounced around, taking swigs of Martell Cognac straight out the bottle, and then spitting it in the air or into a bucket on the stage. It wasn't a shocker to hear Johnny Rotten speak his mind .. In the beginning of the show, he yelled at some hecklers in the balcony. Telling them to "Shut Up, this is my show, and you'll listen to me, so FUCK OFF." And what would a PiL show be without Johnny Rotten Lydon engaging in verbal exchanges? After playing for two hours, during the encore, Johnny got annoyed at a pit security guard for leaning on his stage. He said that was disrespectful. They exchanged some "F" words, and Johnny asked for the removal of the security gaurd, who he called a "Fat Lump."
The PiL show at Pontiac, Crofoot Ballroom, USA (Wednesday April 28th 2010) was filmed in HD for a live webcast via DetroitCity.TV. See https://www.detroitcity.tv/PIL.html
