Three Dog Night @ Molson Concert Series, Lockport, NY

Rock veterans, Three Dog Night, made an appearance at the 4th installment of the Molson summer concert series. This band now consist of original members Cory Wells and Danny Hutton on vocals, Jimmy Greenspoon on keyboards and Michael Allsup on Guitar, along with Paul Kingery on bass and Paul Bautz on drums. The group had a slew of top 10 hits and was the most successful act from 1968-1975.
The band took the stage shortly before 9pm with former local guy Corey Wells being the focal point for most of the show. He provided an amusing rendition of their hit song Mama by rapping the lyrics to the The Sugar Hill Gangs Rappers Delight through part of the song. Corey also donned an acoustic guitar during Heart of Blues and played a harmonica during It Aint Easy. Danny Hutton talked about how he met Corey at the Whiskey a Go-Go in Los Angeles back in the mid 1960s and how the group came together shortly thereafter.
Although I have never seen the band perform live prior, it still seemed like they were missing something. Maybe it was the 3rd former vocalist Chuck Negron. Since Negron who fell into drugs is now clean, maybe a true reunion of one of rocks legendary bands can come to fruition.
